Now Playing: Fallout 3 - Point Lookout

When I returned from Germany, I was thinking about replaying Fallout 3 from the start, and this time, playing it with more freedom to go where I want and do what I want. As opposed to following the quests religiously. But then I learned that Point Lookout, the next DLC, for the game was already released. So it was back to the Wastelands again, for another fresh adventure.

Point Lookout is set on an island off the south-eastern coast of the main map of Fallout 3. To get there, you have to talk to the ferry-man for passage. The place, as far as I have played, is swamp and bog-infested, with dark clouds brewing overhead. Reminds me of some Scottish highlands and moors. It's interesting as it is lush with low lying vegetation and mangroves, unlike the barren deserts of most of the Wastelands. Population is sparse there, just a few "civilized" people who you can deal with, but the majority of the inhabitants are vicious tribal barbarians, who attack anybody on sight. They look grotesque with body deformations, but less over-the-top than Raiders.

So far so good. There's an air of intriguing mystery on the island, from a Chinese spy that was once stationed there to gather information against the Americans, to an aristocrat ghoul living in a mansion with some hidden agenda. But the main mission in which I had to infiltrate the tribal folks' camp by pretending to be one of them is a whiff of The Pitt, slightly unoriginal, but we'll see how it goes.

And much combat. Hard, but fun. Stay tuned for the review.

P.S. For those of you who didn't realize it, all the locations in the DLCs are modeled after real places. As in The Pitt is Pittsburgh, and Point Lookout is a real hamlet on a coast.
