Halo Reach Review

Halo Reach Review

by Rundas

Halo is a confusing series to play. So much is happening at once and you learn very little as the plot progresses. Do not get me wrong, the games are good and the story is phenomenal but it just takes a toll on your brain when you try to figure out what just happened in that last cutscene. For those of you who played the original three halo games and did not read the books, Halo Reach should clear up SOME of the questions you may have.

You play as a newcomer to the team of Spartans, Noble, that has been placed on Reach. You go around the planet to a bunch of different terrains fighting the covenant...yay creativity. I would be a little more detailed about the plot but I do not want to be the one to ruin the hours of thinking and question asking to find out what happens in the game.

Lets get onto the gameplay itself. It is pretty similar to the original halo games, but for those of you who haven't had the opportunity to play it, I shall explain. It is your basic shooter with a Sci-Fi twist. You have your shield and health, which can be depleted by getting shot, blown up, punched, and all the other fun stuff. You also have a motion tracker which acts as your radar to find nearby enemies and companions. Other than that, you have your gun and you go and shoot evil aliens.

Now I bet all of you are dieing to hear about the multiplayer. It cannot be an Xbox 360 game unless it has a frustrating mode to go online and play with others, now would it? This game, once again like the others, allows you to customize your spartan or elite(not as much) with many different armor parts and colors. As you climb the ranks, you gain credits that you can use to purchase that nice looking helmet. You have your usual gametypes like Slayer, Infection, Invasion, but they all share the common goal of defeating your enemy. Unlike the other Halo's you can choose what classes you want, but you cannot change them to your liking as you can in games like Call of Duty. Most of the time they have the same guns, but the difference is in the newly added armor ability. Abilities like Sprint, Armor Lock, Bubble Shield, Jet pack, and several others are now at your command to use as you see fit to aid you in demolishing the other team. Most of the weapons return to the game as well. Assault Rifle, Spartan Laser, Rocket Launcher, you name it and it's probably there. Some others were added as well. DMR, which is like the Battle Rifle from the other games, but is now single shot. Needler Rifle, which is the Covenant version of the DMR. There are others, but it would take a long time to list 'em all.

Overall, I would give the game a 9/10. The plot is pretty good and not as confusing as the other games. The gameplay is pretty smooth and solid. Multiplayer is enjoyable and not that hard to just pick up and play. In my opinion, it is defiantly worth it to give the game a shot, especially if you are tired of Modern Warfare 2.
